Snack Review: April 2016

Are you guys ready for my monthly snack round-up? This month’s snacks really pack a major punch in flavor and spice! I picked up snacks from Daiso, Koreana, Jay Bharat,Vik’s Market, and other Asian markets. 1. Japanese Potato Cracker with Shrimp I’ve passed by these a few times while shopping at Daiso and figured I’ll get them along with some other snackies. I like these for two reasons: the crunch factor and the little shrimps in each cracker! It isn’t greasy and seasoned with just enough salt and flavors to satisfy that craving which made you want to consume a savory snack. If you like Asian rice crackers, then you’ll like these. 3/5 2. Honey Tong Tong I’ve been wanting to try.. Read More

Snack Review: February 2016

Hello everyone! I’m back and planning to blog regularly again. I’ve been taking some time to reflect on myself and where I want to take the blog. I’m planning to make some changes (maybe) and additions to the blog so stay tune! It’s been great hearing how people love my monthly snack series and have been waiting to me to write them again. So here, we go! I’ve picked up more snacks from Nijiya, in San Mateo specifically – each store varies on the merch they carry, and Foodnet Supermarket in San Leandro. I practically devoured all of them! 1. Hot Puri Curry Rice Chips These are similar to the Calbee shrimp chips but swap out the shrimp flavor for spicy curry.. Read More

New Shanghainese place in SF – Taste of Jiangnan!

Growing up, when we went to a Chinese restaurant, it was Cantonese food. I assume a lot of people did too. It seems that majority of Chinese restaurants in America are Cantonese with some Szechuan restaurants out there. However, times have changed. There’s a huge wave of Chinese restaurants opening up specializing cuisine from their region. Shanghainese food is a new thing for me, and it’s been an amazingly delicious experience every time! The other weekend we checked out Taste of Jiangnan in the Inner Richmond in San Francisco, which opened a little over a month ago. I tried to find out more about Jiangnan, but there was very little info out there on the internet. From what I was able.. Read More

La Pinata #1

When moving to the East Bay, the hubs was determined to find three things: 1) a local place where he can get craft beer, 2) a good burrito place, and 3) a game store for him to play Magic the Gathering. He’s a simple man. One of the place we’ve tried and liked is La Pinat#1 in Hayward. Just looking at the exterior, I was excited to try this place out. It looks to fun, festive, and happy.  I love their mural, also (pic below). OMG, their chips and salsa were delicious! We got seconds, and I saved the salsa to eat with my main course. The hubs got the shrimp super burrito, and I got the chicken taco plate. And.. Read More

East Bay Adventures: Lake Chabot and Drake’s Barrel House

east bay adventure collage

Our friend from Sacramento came down to visit. He likes to hike and enjoys a nice refreshing beer, and we wanted to showcase our new neighborhood to him. So, we took him on a little mini East Bay adventure to Lake Chabot and Drake’s Brewery. I’ve lived in the Bay Area for about 20 years and have never been to Lake Chabot! I didn’t even know it existed until a couple years ago. There’s just so much to see and do in the Bay Area. LAKE CHABOT REGIONAL PARK We entered from Lake Chabot Road. There’s a $5 parking fee; it was our first time so we paid. Normally, we just park outside on the main road and walk in… Read More

Dine Under the Dome at Tap [415]

the spread of food

Have you guys been to Tap [415] inside the Westfield in Union Square yet? I found out about it through a meetup I attended. Otherwise, I wouldn’t had known it existed, since I rarely go all the way to the top of the dome. It’s a casual dining spot; you seat yourself and a server comes to take your order. There’s plenty of tables, and it doesn’t get that crazy busy. So, it’s great for groups. We ordered quite the spread as you can see. Looking at it, I couldn’t believe we ordered all that food! Bratwurst with beer onions with mustard on a pretzel bun Tap Burger with tempura bacon, chedda r, lettuce, pickled red onion, togarashi remoulade Kale Salad with.. Read More

The Chairman

Chairman Bao, The Chairman…some reason, I remembered it being called Chairman Bao when it first started roaming the streets of SF. I’m sure many of you have heard that The Chairman truck have a brick and mortar location now in the TL (Tenderloin). Years ago, I spotted The Chairman truck constantly parked outside of a location on Larkin St. I figured they must use a kitchen there because I saw people going in and out of it into the truck. The windows were all covered up. Then last year, I saw a location under construction with the iconic panda image. Since then every time I passed by on Larkin, I always checked to see if they were opened for business… Read More

Nourish Cafe

acai bowl

Hope you guys had a wonderful Labor Day weekend filled with some great bbq despite the heat! Today’s even hotter than yesterday, and I hear it’s going to continue to get hot. Even San Francisco is going to be in the 90s, this week! I thought it is a perfect time for me to post my trip to Nourish Cafe the other month with fellow blogger Bianca of The Artist Wanders and my sister. It’s a little place tucked in the Inner Richmond that serves delicious vegan salads, bowls, wraps, sandwhiches, juices, smoothies, toast, and… ACAI BOWLS! I got the Mission Salad – romaine lettuce, red cabbage, yam avocado, black beans, cherry tomatoes, corn, radish, carrots, jalapeño, pumpkin seeds, and cilantro.. Read More

Snack Review: August

August snack collage

It’s that time again – my monthly snack review round-up! I have some goodies for you this time. All of them were thumbs up. Surprise, surprise. 1. Glico Pretz – Tom Yum Kung flavor It tasted just as the box says “tom yum”, a combination of sweet, sour, tomato-y, spicy, and salty. 7/10   2. Glico Pretz – Sweet Corn flavor Oh my goodness! I love, love Asian corn/sweet corn flavored snacks. It’s a perfect combination of sweet and savory. I want more of that of that artificially flavored sweet corn seasoning to be coated all over. I think I nearly finished this box within a day. 9/10   3. Big Roll Grilled Seaweed Roll – Spicy Grilled Squid flavor These rolls are.. Read More

Tonga Room, Tonga Room, Tonga Room!

pool and boat

You’ll probably be chanting “Tonga Room, Tonga Room, Tonga Room!” after a few of their drinks. They are quite stiff, but you wouldn’t realize it with all the sugar that’s in it – equals bad hangover tomorrow. If you live in SF, you probably already know about the Tonga Room, SF’s famous tiki bar and restaurant, which is located inside the famous Fairmont hotel in Nob Hill (aka our former neighborhood). Or maybe from Anthony Bourdain’s San Francisco Layover episode? We lived on Powell behind the Fairmont, and the walk to the Tonga Room is literally 1.5 blocks or 5 minutes. I felt like it had to be one of our must do before the moved activity, since we went to the.. Read More
