Here’s my part 2 of 3 post farewell to SF. Since moving to Nob Hill, I stopped riding my bike as much. Beside the fact I lived on a HUGE hill, it was giving me anxiety to ride through Union Sq and Financial District. Sister Sister Time in Hayes Valley

YAY, another Sister Sister Time post! (I’m going to make this as a 3-part series of my farewell to SF post.) This time we tackle Hayes Valley, which is near and dear to my heart. It’s one of my favorite neighborhoods in SF, but it’s also where I first lived when I moved here in 2007. Hayes Valley is an awesome neighborhood that only became what it is after the city removed the freeway overpass that went right through the neighborhood and made everyone exit onto Octavia. Padi – Indonesian food in San Leandro!

Happy Friday! We’re still discovering eateries in the East Bay, and I was shocked to find an Indonesian restaurant in San Leandro. There aren’t that many Indonesian restaurants in the Bay Area. I’ve been a huge fan of Indonesian food since our trip to Miami in April where we ate at Bali Cafe. It wasn’t somewhere I would had thought to have Indonesian food, and it was amazing! The closest thing I’ve had to Indonesian food here in the Bay Area was Banana Leaf which is Malaysian – yes, there’s lots of similarities and overlapping dishes. The snacking continues despite the packing, moving, cleaning, and unpacking. (And all those mentioned are also continuing — WAH! A post of the move will be coming up later.) We probably need to snack on even more in times like these. Haha. (Note: The first five snacks I purchased at Walgreens in SF. The ones in SF carry a nice variety of brands and ethnic snacks. Eating on a Budget and Busy Schedule

As most of our friends and families know, we’re currently very busy and on a budget. (I’ll share with the readers what’s been keeping us busy soon). We’ve been eating out a whole lot more often than usual. As you know, it adds up! Also, it isn’t too healthy. I had a debate whether to include the snacks I got from TJ’s in the Monthly Snack Review or the Trader’s Product Review series. I found it more suiting to be here. What do you think? The Sister’s House

Over the weekend, the hubs and I were in the East Bay. We want to scoop out the Korean food scene in Hayward, so we stopped by The Sister’s House for lunch. The place was inside a plaza in an industrial part of Hayward. Reading the reviews on Yelp, some people described the area as “ghetto.” I’m not familiar with Hayward, but I didn’t think it looked ghetto. Then again, I live in San Francisco, and these reviewers probably live in the suburbs. I do have to say that it wasn’t an area I would expect to find a Korean restaurant. 4th of July

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July! We spent the weekend with my family in San Jose. Here’s the spread I made with the help of my husband on the grill. Also, my brother made the pasta salad and a herb and fish sauce marinated chicken. Mikkeller Bar. Good friends, good food, and good drinks. ‘Nuff said. Well, okay. Maybe a few little details about Mikkeller. First off, their labels are super cool — just look at them. Mikkeller is a microbrewery company in Copenhagen that was founded in 2006 by two home brewers Mikkel Borg Bjergsø and Kristian Klarup Keller. (Can you see how the name Mikkeller came about?) They do not operate an official brewery, but guest brews at other breweries and bottle. Hence, they are called a “gypsy brewery” or “phantom brewery.” I would describe their beer as avante-garde, since the brewers are constantly exploring and experimenting with different types of beer and ingredients. Here we are. My second farmers market post with some of the dishes I made from the items I pick up there. I’m still figuring out how I want to structure these post so bear with me — suggestions are welcomed, let me know what you like to see. However, my overall goal is to get you to stop by your local farmers market, see what is in season, cook more, and cook seasonally. Once you eat fruits and veggies that are in season, you’ll see how much better they taste.
